Everton eye Icelandic striker Orri Óskarsson for January window
Everton look set to be busy in the January transfer window, with reports suggesting David Moyes is keen to bring in fresh firepower up front.
TeamTalk (TeamTalk) reports that Everton are "plotting" a January move for a "red-hot Iceland striker", explaining that Moyes has been left with only one recognised centre-forward, Thierno Barry, after what it calls a "calamitous" summer window in which Beto was sold to Fiorentina without a replacement being brought in.
Read Everton (Read Everton) names that target as Orri Óskarsson, the Real Sociedad forward and Iceland captain, stating that Everton are "monitoring" the 22-year-old ahead of January as Moyes considers adding another centre-forward to his squad. The site notes he "has caught the eye" this season, though stops short of saying a move is advanced, describing it as a report rather than a done deal.
Both outlets agree on the broad picture: Moyes is short of attacking options and a young, in-form Icelandic striker has emerged as a name being tracked, with TeamTalk and Read Everton both pointing towards Óskarsson as the player in question.
Elsewhere, the Liverpool Echo (Liverpool Echo) takes a different angle on the club's wider situation, with Michael Ball tackling "the big issues" at Hill Dickinson Stadium following the defeat to Arsenal, including who is making the big calls on David Moyes' contract and the January window with Everton up for sale. That piece doesn't focus specifically on Óskarsson, but it does touch on the same theme of how January business will be handled amid the ownership situation, tying in neatly with the striker speculation from the other two reports.
Taken together, the picture building up is of an Everton squad short on centre-forwards, a manager keen to address that in the New Year, and Orri Óskarsson emerging as an early name being linked with a move to Merseyside.
